Pray for those we serve

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.
— Isaiah 1:17

We are fortunate to be able to serve such incredible families throughout the Houston community. We recognize that we are guests in these homes and we are so grateful for the hospitality that is shown while we join their home repair journey. Each and every client is special in their own right and each project creates its own challenges and opportunities. Please join us in praying for those we serve, that they can find peace and restoration to their homes and lives.

You are invited to pray over the names of the clients we are currently serving, have served, or will serve:

Clients we are currently serving:

jesse

Jesse is a 91-year-old Korean War veteran who worked as a truck driver after serving our country. He has lived in his home since the 1960s and has raised two children who have recently passed away.

Repair projects for Jesse’s home will include a roof, bathroom floors, a wheelchair ramp, and various other drywall and painting work.

Nichole

Nichole is a 53-year-old woman with three children (two in college and on on their own). She has been a cook most of her life in elderly facilities, but was recently laid off. Nichole has severe damage to the interior and exterior of her home, requiring a bathroom upgrade, drywall, kitchen cabinets, windows, siding repair, and paint.

Ruthie

Ruthie is an 85-year-old widow who lives with and is the caretaker for her disabled son, who suffered brain damage from a motorcycle accident. Ruthie was diagnosed with muscle dystrophy in the early 90s and spends most of the day bedridden herself. Before her diagnosis, Ruthie worked as a housekeeper most of her adult life. Her home suffered flood damage in Hurricane Harvey that she is still recovering from. The home has been mucked out and a lot of the sheetrock work has been completed, but the flooring was never finished (she is one of the many homeowners who fell victim to contractor fraud after receiving FEMA payouts).

Paula

Paula is 58 years old and lives with her teenage son. Unfortunately, this past year Paula lost her daughter to complications with diabetes. Due to a demanding work schedule and family loss, she has been unable to do much work in her home, which is in desperate need of exterior siding and interior drywall repairs. On top of these, Paula is struggling with a long list of water leaks, leading to a recent $14,000 water bill. Fortunately, we have been able to repair her plumbing and now have moved onto other repairs.

Jennifer

Jennifer is a 72-year-old widow who has lived in her home for 50 years. She raised four children and nine grandchildren in this home and retired from the home healthcare industry that she worked in her whole adult life. Jennifer’s home suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Harvey and the Winter Storm and with her lack of income and severe arthritis, Jennifer has been left with few options for repairs.

Together, we will be repairing her plumbing, restoring her bathroom, replacing the kitchen cabinets, and repairing exterior siding.

Magnificat house

Magnificat House is a homeless and transitional housing ministry that has served Houston for the past 60 years. They have properties throughout the city to serve as 90-day transitional housing for men and women experiencing homelessness. In addition to housing, Magnificat House provides job training and workforce development to get back on their feet.

We recently partnered with Magnificat House to rehabilitate various properties so they can house and impact more clients. The first project that we broke ground on in March is their first-ever property, located in Housoton’s East End, that will house 15 women at a time. The residents will stay for 90 days at a time, so the work will impact 60 people per year. The scope of work will include exterior siding, drywall, paint, two bathrooms, and a kitchen repair.

Annie

Annie is in her 80s and has lived in this house since she moved to Houston from East Texas as a little girl. Annie raised four children and several grandchildren in this home and made more memories than you can fill a book with. Her children have moved out, but her house is the gathering place for all of her grandchildren after school.

Annie retired from a career in the Harris County health system a few years back, where she cleaned rooms and answered the phones at LBJ Hospital not too far from her home on 610. We found Annie through a referral from her pastor, Edward Durant of Kashmere Gardens Missionary Baptist Church. We have gotten several client referrals from Pastor Durant and our relationship with his church.

This has been a top-to-bottom repair covering most aspects of the home. Projects have and will include: roof replacement, siding, windows, trim, insulation, drywall, flooring, kitchen, bathroom, electric, and plumbing.

Sandra:

Sandra is 73 years old and has lived in her Northeast Houston home for thirty years. At her age, Sandra’s psychiatric health has been slowly deteriorating so her neighbor, a retired coordinator from the Harris County Health Department, looks after her and takes Sandra to her appointments. Sandra spends her days at the neighborhood Multiservice Center where she participates in daily activities with other seniors.

We have replaced exterior siding, windows, sheetrock, and flooring at Sandra’s home

Lisa

Lisa is 56 years old and has lived in her home for her entire life, where she raised three children and two grandchildren. Lisa is a cancer survivor and is currently on disability. While working on Lisa’s home, her son suffered a stroke and is currently in recovery.

On this project, we have remediated mold and repaired Lisa’s two bathrooms and bedroom, widened doorways, and strengthened the subfloor.

Betty

Betty is a 69-year-old widow on dialysis who sustained damage from Hurricane Harvey. We have repaired and painted the exterior fascia and soffit, and will replace cabinets and repair sheetrock and flooring throughout the home.

Adye

Adye is a 73-year-old retired phlebotomist who has lived in her home for 40 years. Adye takes care of her great-grandchildren all while suffering from chronic kidney disease and diabetes.

Projects at Adye’s home include repairing exterior siding, trim, floors, insulation, drywall, and a bathroom upgrade.

Annie

Annie is 97 years old and lives alone after her husband passed a few years ago. Annie has lived in her home for almost 60 years and has raised 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Even at her age, Annie still likes to move around and tend to her plants. Annie recently had a hip replacement which makes it a bit difficult to do as many activities as she used to.

Projects here will include window trim, painting, and drywall in a moldy closet.
