KPRC 2 Highlights The Restoration Team's 500th Family Served
Last week, The Restoration Team was honored to be featured by KPRC 2 as they shared the story behind a major milestone in our organization's journey: serving our 500th family.
The feature spotlighted the home of William Pierre, a longtime northeast Houston resident whose home was facing serious challenges after a leaking roof threatened the safety and stability of the house he loves.
"The main problem was my roof, it was leaking," Pierre shared during the interview.
What started as a roof replacement quickly revealed more extensive needs. After evaluating the property, The Restoration Team committed nearly $45,000 in repairs to help restore the home and provide Mr. Pierre with a safe, secure, and dignified place to live.
Like many homeowners we serve, Mr. Pierre was initially skeptical that strangers would step forward simply to help.
"You thought there was a catch... you thought this is too good to be true?" he was asked.
"Yes," Pierre replied. "But then you realized it was divine intervention? Yes it was."
For Executive Director Trevor Barnett, stories like Mr. Pierre's are why The Restoration Team exists.
What began as a small volunteer effort through Trevor's church following Hurricane Harvey has grown into a citywide movement involving churches, nonprofit partners, private donors, and thousands of volunteers committed to helping vulnerable homeowners remain safely in their homes.
As Trevor shared during the interview:
"There is something to be said about helping your neighbors in need and not asking for anything in return."
The KPRC 2 feature also provided an opportunity to announce an exciting vision for the future.
As we celebrate serving our 500th family, we are setting our sights on an ambitious new goal: helping 100 families annually by 2028.
The need is significant. Across Houston, more than 100,000 homeowners are living in homes that require critical repairs. Leaking roofs, failing foundations, unsafe electrical systems, and accessibility challenges often place families at risk of displacement and financial hardship.
By expanding our volunteer capacity, strengthening partnerships, and growing community support, we believe we can help even more families experience the safety, dignity, and peace of mind that comes with a restored home.
We are grateful to KPRC 2 for sharing this story and helping shine a light on the incredible generosity that exists throughout our community.
As Trevor reminded viewers:
"The world and the community we live in is more generous than it appears."
Thank you to every volunteer, donor, church partner, sponsor, and supporter who has helped make these first 500 families possible.
Here's to the next 500.
