Building More Than Homes: The Restoration Team & VEVOR Partner for Community Impact
For William Pierre and his family in Houston's Settegast neighborhood, years of deferred maintenance and Hurricane Beryl damage had turned a leaking roof into serious safety concerns. Through VEVOR's Upgrade Next Door community program, The Restoration Team (TRT) and 20 volunteers completed priority repairs over three days—marking TRT's 500th family served.
At The Restoration Team, we often say that restoration begins with people. It begins with volunteers willing to give their time, churches and community partners who believe every family deserves a safe place to call home, and companies that choose to use their resources for something bigger than themselves.
That's why we're incredibly grateful to welcome VEVOR as a partner in our journey to serving 500 families.
Through VEVOR's Upgrade Next Door program, the Pierre family's home became the first project completed following the program's formal launch. The three-day volunteer renovation addressed priority repairs, while TRT will continue the remaining work until the family can safely return home.
A Home Worth Fighting For
William Pierre, a lifelong Houston resident, has lived in his Settegast home since 1999, raising his twin sons there as a single father. Hurricane Beryl accelerated years of deferred maintenance and left the home with critical repair needs that Pierre could no longer address alone.
When our team assessed the project, we knew this wasn't simply another repair—it would become our 500th family served, a milestone representing years of volunteers, churches, donors, contractors, and community partners working together to restore hope across Houston.
Building Together
Over three incredible days, nearly 20 volunteers contributed more than 270 hours alongside The Restoration Team and VEVOR employees to complete major renovations throughout the home.
Together, the team completed:
Structural repairs
A complete bathroom renovation with a new walk-in shower
Upgrades to a rear bedroom to improve comfort and livability
Critical safety upgrades throughout the home.
VEVOR supplied the tools and equipment used across the repair work, including a telescoping ladder, wet/dry vacuums, a walk-behind floor sweeper, and a drywall sander to ensure smooth wall finishes while minimizing dust during construction. TRT will retain this equipment for future home-repair projects.
While significant progress has been made, The Restoration Team will continue working on the remainder of the home until the Pierre family can safely move back in—expected in approximately one month.
Together, the team completed:
Structural repairs
A complete bathroom renovation with a new walk-in shower
Bedroom improvements
Critical safety upgrades throughout the home
VEVOR also supplied professional-grade tools and equipment that allowed volunteers to work more efficiently and safely, including telescoping ladders, wet/dry vacuums, drywall sanders, and additional construction equipment that will continue serving future families long after this project is complete.
While significant progress has been made, The Restoration Team will continue working on the remainder of the home until the Pierre family can safely move back in.

A Milestone... and a Beginning
Reaching 500 families served is a moment worth celebrating.
But it's also a reminder that the work is far from finished.
More than 100,000 homeowners across the Houston area are still living in homes that need critical repairs. Families continue facing unsafe roofs, inaccessible bathrooms, failing foundations, and homes that no longer provide the safety every person deserves.
Our vision is clear: to serve 100 families annually by 2028.
We know we cannot accomplish that vision alone.
It will take more partnerships like this one. More volunteers. More churches. More businesses are willing to invest in their communities. And more neighbors choosing to help neighbors.
